BreatheEasy
Houses in informal settlements like Madanpur Khadar (Delhi) suffer from air pollution trapped in living spaces for hours, leading to severe impact on health. Combined with heat stress and use of biomass for fuel, households unanimously voice feeling suffocated. AfD is building and testing retrofit spatial intervention to improve air quality and provide immediate comfort indoors.
Roles and Responsibilities
My role as a consultant as this studio was streamlining the release of the passive chimney prototype developed by the studio to the community where the prototype was installed.

Field Research
-
Conducting design research to obtain insight of user behaviours and needs.
-
Fieldwork included rapid sketching of the neighbourhoods' built features, shortlisting houses for prototype installation based on geographical, seasonal, built characteristics and created resident profiles.
-
Managed participant recruitment, logistics of AQI monitoring, and communication with client and shortlisted residents.
-
Identifying production vendors and coordinating costs, material sampling and production timelines for the protype and the exhibition.
-
Conceptualised exhibition design and copywriting for visual components.
Thematic Mapping

Exhibition and Community Engagement
-
Created engaging short form surveys for various demographics to test the community's reception to the prototype and gather feedback.
-
Outlined insights gathered from feedback to connect the intervention to market research, and proposed to bring local vendors and service providers into the primary stakeholders group to make its easier for the community to opt in for the next round of installation and testing.
